Well, both your Mom and I were quite impatient when it came to knowing if you were a boy or girl. We got the envelope with your sex when you were a mere 13 weeks old, and neither of use tried to convince ourselves we wanted to (or even could for that matter) wait until some indeterminate time in the future, let alone your birth. Your Mom wanted us to do something "special" for our own personal gender reveal (We also had a formal "Reveal Party" to share that information with the world. More on that later), so I suggested we hit up a local bar. Shortly thereafter, at around noon on a Wednesday, your Mom and I entered one of her favorite spots to start off a weekend night of partying back in her college days. How times change, or maybe not so much.....
We had your official reveal party a few weeks after we had our private reveal party as shown above. We had it at your Nana and Papa's house and invited family and a few close friends. The centerpiece of any reveal party is the actual disclosure of the closely guarded secret; however, before the main event other "games" are played. One that we played was "guess the gender of the baby", in which everyone guesses the baby's gender. As you can see by the picture below, the consensus seemed to be that you were a boy! After the guessing game came the reveal. We had special cupcakes made that were filled with pink frosting to indicate that, yes indeed, you were a girl!
Looks like you started early proving people wrong. Keep it up!
They always say never change a good thing, so we stuck with that and decided to head on over to the Green Top for our personal reveal! Now, the Green Top Tavern is one of Kalamazoo's finest establishments *sarcasm*. However, your Mom and Dad spent many an evening there in their youth, and we had many fond memories of the place. We waltzed in around 1:00 pm on a weekday and proceeded to explain to the bartender how we wanted our reveal to go (blue drink for boy, pink drink for girl, put shakers over the glasses to hide the color, film our reaction). Once again the bartender was honored, but this time we had some very interested patrons and our photos and video of us probably exist somewhere on a few people's phone.
Although we did not have an official party for you, we DID so some reveals for close family. It was almost better this way since we didn't have the stress of planning a whole shindig. Anyway, everyone was just happy that another grand child was on the way. Plus who doesn't love silly string?!
Well, we did things a bit differently this time around and did NOT find out the sex of baby before the birth. We wanted to be surprised! So, there WAS a reveal, it was when you popped out and Dad said, "It's a boy!".
Dad was not surprised. He had not clue what you would be and just wanted a healthy baby. Mom on the other hand was sure you were a girl and was blown away that you are not. Below is a dramatization of what a reveal might have looked like for a baby of unknown sex.
